Heavy equipment, hard hats and road detours are becoming common sights on Fort Meade as construction projects to accommodate the Base Realignment and Closure moves have started in earnest.
The abundance of construction will continue to cause some disruption of traffic on the installation over the next three years as periodic lane and road closures become necessary. Mapes Road, Cooper Avenue and Rockenbach Road will see the greatest amount of disruption.

The headquarters complex which will house the largest new tenant to Fort Meade, the Defense Information Systems Agency, will total 1,000,000 square feet of office space in five buildings. Construction of the DISA campus began with a ground breaking ceremony in April, 2008. The project is scheduled for completion by February, 2011. The completed project will be the largest office complex in Anne Arundel County. |

Construction of the new headquarters for the Defense Media Activity is scheduled to begin early 2009. The DMA headquarters will total 186,000 square feet in a multi-story building which will house the latest in television, radio and print media production capabilities. Occupancy is scheduled for sometime in 2011. |

Also in 2009, construction of the building for the Colocation of Defense/Military Adjudication Activities is scheduled to begin in February, 2009. Adjudication activities from four services and the DOD will occupy 152,000 square feet of space in their new headquarters. |
