CSM Thomas J. Latter

Garrison Command Sergeant Major

CSM Thomas J. Latter was born in Albany, New York on 22 November, 1967 and entered the United States Army on 17 July 1985 upon graduation from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School.  He attended basic training at Ft Leonardwood, Missouri and advanced individual training (AIT) as an Electronic Warfare Signals Intelligence Analyst at Goodfellow AFB, Texas.  His first duty assignment was with 125th Military Intelligence Battalion (MI BN), 25th Infantry Division (L), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  His follow on assignments include, 742d MI BN, Ft Meade, Maryland; 125th MI BN, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 344th MI BN, Goodfellow AFB, Texas; 3rd MI BN (AE), Camp Humphreys, Korea; 314th MI BN, Medina AFB, Texas; 102d MI BN, Camp Essayons, Korea; 1st Brigade Troops Battalion, Camp Hovey, Korea; 741st MI BN, Ft Meade, Maryland; and 743d MI BN, Buckley AFB, Colorado.  CSM Latter is currently assigned as the Fort George G. Meade Garrison Command Sergeant Major, Maryland.

CSM Latter holds a Masters of Science of Strategic Intelligence degree from the Joint Military Intelligence College, a Bachelor of Science Degree (Cum Laude) in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College, and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Instructor of Technology and Military Science from the Community College of the Air Force. 

CSM Latter has held various key leadership and analytical positions including: EW/SIGINT Analyst, Brigade Intelligence Electronic Warfare Support Element NCO, Team Leader, Battalion Training NCO, Senior Voice Analyst, Squad Leader, Instructor/ Developer for both the Basic Electronic Warfare SIGINT Course and the Fundamental Military Cryptanalyst Course, Senior SIGINT Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Chief MRSOC Cryptanalytic Exploitation Center, Superintendent MRSOC Global Missions Division, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, and Battalion Command Sergeant Major.

His military education includes the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Fundamental Military Cryptanalysis Course (T9), Cryptologic Skills for Noncommissioned Officers Course (CK-155), Communications Identification Methodology Course (CIM), Nuclear Biological Chemical Defense School, Jungle Operations Training Course, Air Assault Course, and Rappel Master Course.  CSM Latter is a graduate of the Post Graduate Intelligence Program and Undergraduate Intelligence Program offered by the National Defense Intelligence College (formerly the Joint Military Intelligence College), Bolling AFB, Washington D.C.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters; ninth award of the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 4, Air Assault Badge, and Driver Badge (W).

CSM Latter is also a recipient of the Military Intelligence Corps Knowlton Award, the Air Education and Training Command Master Instructor Badge, and the U.S. Army Intelligence Command and Ft. Huachuca Senior and Master Instructor Badges.

CSM Latter has been happily married for the past nineteen years to his wife Terri.
