The proof is in the pudding as Freedom Inn receives trophy
Fort Meade's Freedom Inn was honored as the "Large Garrison Winner" of the 2011 U.S. Army Philip A. Connelly Award for Excellence in Food Service program, a year-long event that focuses on the overall operation and effectiveness of Army facilities throughout the world. The trophy recognizes the hard work and dedication of Fort Mead's dining facility staff over the past year.
Freedom Inn: A beautiful 27,550-square-foot dining facility
The Freedom Inn was built in 2006, and is a beautiful 27,550-square-foot dining facility. The 9.5-million-dollar cafeteria serves three meals a day and 1,227 military personnel in 90 minutes. There are hot entrees, a salad bar, a sandwich station and fresh desserts. The facility offers five dining areas and a veranda, 10 wall-mounted televisions and three cashiers with a separate carry-out facility. Over 60 employees keep the facility operating seven days a week. The Freedom Inn won second place in the 2006 Philip A. Connelly Awards for Excellence in Army Food Service. It took close to a year to prepare. The group came in second to Fort Bragg in the fiercely competitive event. The Freedom Inn is one of the first military facilities to operate with a web-based point-of-service check-out. The system tracks inventory, meal payments and other important patron information. The Freedom Inn serves Defense Information School students, reserve and guard Soldiers, as well as Fort Meade active duty personnel.
