The Soldiers for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) delivers a world-class transition program for America's Army that ensures all eligible Retiring/Separating Soldiers have the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to be competitive in the global workforce. SFL-TAP helps transitioners make informed career decisions through benefits counseling and employment assistance.
SFL-TAP: Starting the Process
Retirees may register and complete the Pre-Separation Counseling 24 months prior to RETIREMENT. Separatees may register and complete the Pre-Separation Counseling 18 months prior to SEPARATION. In the case of special circumstances, the process should be started as soon as possible.
- Step 1. To start the process, use the link https://www.portal.sfl-tap.army.mil and login with CAC.
- Step 2. Register then follow prompts to complete the Online Pre-Separation Briefing
- Step 3. Complete eForm, use the link https://www.dodtap.mil/ and login with CAC. Click on “Initalize Pre-Separation Counseling” and complete sections I, II and IV.
- Step 4. Once completed, schedule Initial Counseling, by contacting the Soldier for Life-TAP office, 301-677-9871 or visiting the office, 8501 Simonds St (corner of Simonds and Zimborski). During this appointment the SFL-TAP Counselor will review important program requirements, schedule your 5 Day workshop and review other resources available to assist with your transition.
