John M. Moeller

John M. Moeller is a native of Elgin, Illinois. Following graduation from Elgin High School, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He graduated from West Point in 1980 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

John spent almost 23 years on active duty in the United States Army. His assignments included Germany, Korea, Fort Carson (Colorado), Fort Indiantown Gap (Pennsylvania), Fort Hood (Texas), Washington, D.C., and Egypt.

John retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in February 2003. That same month he joined the federal government as a Department of the Army civilian. His first assignment was that of Chief of the Management Support Office at Headquarters, U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) in Arlington, Virginia. John's office provided all human resources, budget, manpower, administrative, personnel and physical security, supply, property accountability, facilities management, information management and other logistical support for a 400-person headquarters.

Besides a Bachelor's of Science from West Point, he holds a Master's of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. His military and civilian awards include the Legion of Merit and the Superior Civilian Service Award.

John serves as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) with the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton (OWL) Volunteer Fire Department in Prince William County, Virginia. He is also an avid long distance runner and stamp collector.
